Loader Street is part of De Waterkant Old Town, the area where De Waterkant
first developed and is steeped in history. Loader street was given its
name because that area was used when loading the stone from the quarry
opposite Strand Street, used for the construction of the Castle of Good
Hope in the late 1600's. The area housed many of the artisans working
in the area, and these historical buildings have since been restored and
tastefully refurbished.
