There are several wonderful reasons to spend time in De Waterkant Village, including spending the day browsing the stunning interior stores.  Baraka, in the Cape Quarter specialises in an eclectic mix of shabby chic and rustic furniture, decor and gifts (often funky African inspired). We love everything in their store, especially their prices and will be back time and time again to stock up on red stone hearts, leather bound notebooks and red coral cuffs!

Just a skip across the road takes you to La Provence Interiors. The shop hosts three rooms which lend themselves to a delightful mixture of art, interior accessories, home gifts, custom jewellery, furniture and accessories and is so well priced, we were bowled over.

Africa Nova, in the Cape Quarter, is an upmarket retail gallery specializing in contemporary South African art, craft and design as well as carefully selected tribal pieces. Renowned both locally and internationally, the gallery stocks a meticulously curated selection of handmade jewellery, ceramics, textiles, fine art and sculpture displayed juxtaposed to edgy street art.

Van Den Bergh’s has a reputation for quality leather furniture in South Africa and uses the best kudu, ostrich, eland, buffalo and  zebra hides to create their sofa, ottoman and other bold masterpieces.  Every item is custom made to client’s requirements after approval from the owner herself and the secret of Van den Bergh’s originality, lies in the tasteful African styling in every piece.

Private Collections is worth travelling the earth for and the store stretches across several spaces. If Indiana Jones were to have his own interior store, it would look like this!  Groaning with artefacts, giant doors imported from all four corners of the world, beds made for kings, wardrobes from fairytales, architectural pieces preserved from archaeological digs, Private Collections is a destination and definitely not just a store.
